ESSENDON FOOTBALL CLUB SACKS BRAD SCOTT FOLLOWING SHOCKING LOSS STREAK!

After an appalling loss rate under the head coach role, Brad Scott has been sacked from the Essendon Football Club.

Despite 18 months remaining on his contract, the club has decided to part ways with Scott after a loss rate of 62.5% of the 80 games he coached. 
Although sudden, the decision will not come as a surprise to many as Essendon have only come out victorious in 1 of 11 games in the 2026 season. This follows the club losing 13 games in the previous season. 

Early in the morning on the 26^th of May, Tom Morris reported the decision from the club board to call the contract early if he wasn’t going to be coaching going into the 2027 season.

A club statement regarding Scott’s departure read:

“The Essendon Football Club can confirm that it has made the decision to part company with Senior Coach Brad Scott, effective immediately,”

Essendon’s president left a glowing review of Scott’s time at the club stating he is:

“A resilient, stoic leader who gave everything”

Despite all the thanks from the club personalities, the club still parted ways pre-emptively with Scott.

The board made the executive decision after looking at the progress of the football team in the first half of this season and it was agreed upon that a fresh voice in needed for 2027. Once the decision was made, it was thought to be unfair to have Scott coach any longer, leading to the departure being brought forward.

The Essendon Football Club have made their drive to return to a successful Essendon side, clear.
The hardship of the Essendon Football Club has been felt everywhere recently from players, to staff, to fans.
However, there is a lot of optimism from Club staff going into the second half of the season.

Essendon President, Andrew Welsh stated that they are:

“Building the next successful era for Essendon, with a view to playing finals, winning finals and competing for premierships”. 

In this build, Essendon swiftly decided on their interim head coach selection.
In the afternoon of the same day, former Essendon and Fremantle footballer, Dean Solomon was selected.
This isn’t his first time filling this position as he coached 3 games for the Gold Coast Suns in 2017 following the departure of Ben Rutten.
Following his retirement from football, Solomon immediately joined the coaching team at the Fremantle Dockers as assistant coach in 2010.
He has been in the football coaching atmosphere since, coaching at multiple clubs including Fremantle, Gold Coast, GWS and now Essendon. 

As it currently stands, Dean Solomon is not looking to take on this role full time going into next season and will only fulfill the interim position until the end of the year.
Essendon Football Club will continue the search after Solomons interim period expires in the offseason.
