WA Government shuts the door on fly in-fly out AFL plan

WA Health Minister, Roger Cooke has shut the door on a regular season return for the AFL forcing the Fremantle Dockers and West Coast Eagles to contemplate a relocation to the east for the AFL season restart.

The Minister stating the government has no confidence the AFL could maintain infection rates and prevent spread.

“WA’s hard border will not and should not be compromised to allow the AFL to resume a home and away season because from a health perspective it is just not a safe model,” he said.

Mr Cook also hit back at suggestions from Opposition Leader Liza Harvey suggestion that WA’s hard border should be now relaxed for all AFL teams to fly in and fly out.

Truck rollover causes traffic chaos on the Kwinana Freeway

Motorists have suffered long delays on the Kwinana Freeway after a truck rollover in Perth’s south this afternoon.

The northbound lane was closed at Russell Road in Success, with heavy congestion backed up to Rowley Road.

WA Police confirmed no injuries were reported and urged motorists to avoid the area until the clean-up is complete.

Gleeson unhappy with NBL player opt-out

Perth Wildcats coach Trevor Gleeson believes NBL players should have been given more than just one fortnight to decide whether they should stay or they should go after losing his two best players.

The two-time reigning champions were the club most impacted by the new salary cap agreement put in place last month, with dual-MVP Bryce Cotton and two-time All NBL player Nick Kay opting out of their contracts to explore alternative options after seeing their pay significantly cut.

Players heading into the final year of their contracts were given just two weeks but Gleeson believes it should have been until July 1, in line with opening of the Free Agency period.
