My Crazy Night At Optus
By Jevan Collins
It was your typical Monday night footy game last night as the Eagles took on the Dees at Optus stadium as it was a tight game all night and only a Kozzie Pickett goal in the dying seconds separated the teams at half time with Melbourne leading 5.3.33 to the Eagles 4.5.27
The third quarter is when Melbourne flexed their premiership muscles outscoring the Eagles with 1 goal to 5 and at the start of the fourth Melbourne came out a dominated until something strange happened scenes you would never see in the west and a first for me a serve weather delay 5 minutes into the last quarter which stopped play for nearly half an hour and players were forced to go down to the rooms while the crowd was told to seek shelter and told not to leave.
Play finally resumed at 8:50 with the scores 5.6.36 to 10.9.69 the break did the Eagles wonder as they came out and came out and kicked the next 4 goals thanks to Josh Kennedy, Nic Naitanui, Connor west with his first goal in the AFL and Jack Darling and almost grab the game from the jaws of defeat being 33 points down at the start of the serve weather delay.
The funny thing was that during the Serve weather delay the time keepers at the stadium forgot to stop the game clock so the siren went at the 59 minute mark of the last quarter.
