Many people doubted if we should continue with Tokyo 2020 after the world was shut down last year because of Covid-19. But the games were a perfect distraction from everything going on in the world and for two weeks all eyes were on Tokyo where we saw the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.
What the games did was unite the world together through sport and it did just that as we saw the first gold medal shared in 109 years at the high jump, a teammate that yelled encouragement to his teammate to win bronze at the decathlon, a new fastest man in the world and a new rivalry created in the pool.
But we have to give a shout out to our Aussie athletes that competed and new stars that were created such as Peter Bol, Cedric Dubler, Kaylee McKeown, Emma Mckeown, Arina Titmus, Jessica Fox, Logan Martins, and Keegan Palmer and we can’t forget about the team sports The Boomers, The Kookaburras, and The Matildas did us all proud.
Here are some of our favorite moments from Tokyo 2020:
My favorite moment from Tokyo 2020 was when the Boomers stood on the podium for the first time to get their bronze medal and in the same game when Patty Mills dropped 42 points as well as Jess fox winning her first gold medal and the sharing of the gold medal in the high jump.
Seeing the horses in the dressage dancing to Michael Jackson
Ariana Titmus’s coach’s wild celebrations after she won the gold at the pool
Kaylee McKeown dropping the magic in a post-race interview and 14-year-old Quan Hongchan winning the woman 10m platform final
When the USA beat Australia in the Semi Finals 97- 78 in basketball
Jessica Fox winning her first gold medal in the canon slalom and Patty Mills dropping 42 in the Bronze medal match.
Lee Adams coming 24th in the male Marathon
When 18-year-old Keegan Palmer won Australia’s first ever medal in skateboarding
Distance runner Sifan Hassan won gold after fall over during the 10,000 meters
All we have to say at BOOM is bring on Paris in 2024!!
