Derby 53 delight for dockers

Fremantle has snapped their derby drought after beating the Eagles for the first time in 11 attempts winning 12.7.79 to 9.10.64.
Fremantle was without a host of stars including skipper Nat Fyfe, Michael Walters, and suspended midfielder Andrew Brayshaw, Fremantle was also celebrating David Mundy’s 353 game for the club. Every player in the Fremantle team except Mundy and Taberner had won a Western derby.
The Dockers came out of the blocks by kicking 8 first-quarter goals to the Eagles 3 to take a 30 point lead into quarter time in the second quarter the Eagles came out and dominated the quarter kicking 1.5 but Fremantle kicked 2 of their own goals to lead by a game-high margin of 40 points and the margin was 31 at half time.
In the third, the Eagles dominated the quarter kicking 4 majors but a late Fremantle goal out the back to extend the 3-quarter time margin. The Eagles mounted a comeback in the last and got the margin to 6 but a massive goal from Caleb Serong won the game for the Dockers and claimed his first Glendenning- Allen Medal.
