AFL finals in Tassie
By Jevan Collins
For the first time in VFL/AFL history, AFL finals are heading to the apple aisle as they host both elimination finals in season 2021 at UTAS Stadium in Launceston. The state comes a long way after being rejected time after time by the AFL for a standalone team, but after the state hosted the most AFL games in their history and Victoria’s rising Covid number the AFL had a known choice but to turn to the apple isle.
On Saturday afternoon UTAS Stadium hosts the second elimination final when Sydney takes on GWS for the third time in the finals, GWS has won both encounters there first meeting was in 2016 at Homebush Stadium and their second in 2018 at the SCG. Both sides are going into the game with strong form as GWS and Sydney both coming off wins to Carlton and Gold Coast respectfully.
On Sunday at the same venue the Western Bulldogs take on Essendon in the first elimination final, Essendon is going into the game with 3 straight wins over the dogs, suns, and pies and the bulldogs are coming off 3 straight losses to finish the season as well as missing out on the top 4 because of percentage after Brisbane beat the Eagles by enough at the GABBA.
Make sure you get down to UTAS Stadium in Launceston for this historic moment as
