Week One of the AFL final’s series saw 4 massive games starting on Thursday night with the Adelaide Crows going up against the GWS Giants.
The Crows got out to an early lead against the Giants and never looked back with a 36-point win, meaning that the crows have shot straight through to a home Preliminary Final at the Adelaide Oval.
The Friday night game was a meeting between 2 powerhouses of the competition, the Geelong Cats and the Richmond Tigers.
This was a tight game for the first 3 quarters with only one goal being scored in the first quarter and a half of the game before the Tigers were ruthless in the last, eventually winning by 51 points and also going through to a home Preliminary final at the MCG in a fortnight’s time.
The Saturday afternoon’s game between the Sydney Swans and the Essendon Bombers never reached any great height’s as the Swans thrashed the Bombers at home by 65 points at the SCG.
And this weekend’s game of the round was left to last between the Port Adelaide Power and the West Coast Eagles. This game had the Eagles get out to an early 31-point lead at the Adelaide Oval but were brought back as the game headed into extra time for just the third time in AFL final’s history.
The game looked over countless amount of times before an after the siren free kick and goal to Luke Shuey saw the Eagles head through to a Semi Final.
Next week will see a total of 2 games with the Geelong Cats facing the Sydney Swans at the MCG on Friday night and the GWS Giants going up against the West Coast Eagles at Spotless Stadium on Saturday night.
